In this exploration we will take a closer look at "Human Impact on Marine Ecosystems" (NCEAS) thematic map using some of the quick-access features in TerraViva! Global Data Viewer and in TerraViva! Global Data Analyst software.
The first image of the map is zoomed to the Atlantic Ocean where the Baltic and North Seas meet. Gray areas on the map (no data) are land areas. A country boundaries layer is enabled in white for visual orientation.
The color table indicates that the marine ecosystems in this area are experiencing "Very High Impact" from human endeavors, as shown by the red portions of the map. |

The second image is zoomed in to the northern tip of Scotland and the Orkney Islands to the north. By right-clicking on the thematic map we can perform a "Quick Query" on the marine area to the east of the islands. The query mask includes an area within 50 km of the click-point on the thematic map. Query results give statistics on the query area. The query results for this map show the level of human influence in the query area.

| The final image shows the thematic map with a small magnifier window open, magnifying the selected area by a factor of 4. We can move the magnifier around on the map, change the magnification, change the size of the magnifier window, and can even select a different thematic map to view in the magnifier window. |
