Elevation and Depth 30 Arc Second (ISciences)
Combines
three U.S. government map products: SRTM30, GTOPO30, and
ETOPO2. Depth
is derived from ETOPO2 global digital terrain
model (NOAA-NGDC).
The land elevation portion is derived from
NASA’s SRTM30 digital elevation data, Version 1.1,
where that was available, and from USGS’s GTOPO30
elevation data where the SRTM30 data didn’t exist.

Guide (pdf).

Political Boundaries National/Sub-National
(ISciences)
Derived from many sources,
rigorously researched in
order to
use
best available sources for
each country. Many of the country and 1st-level boundaries
are extracted from the LandScan dataset produced by
ORNL. Newly published
United Nations renditions were consulted. When discrepancies
were noted between ORNL, UN or WFB, other
sources were consulted. For
more information see Map
Guide (pdf).

Coastlines 1 Arc Second (ISciences)
The
ISciences Coastline data set is a global map at 1 arc-second
of resolution
(approximately 30 meters at the equator) defining which
areas of the earth are land and which are ocean or sea.
This dataset was created to overcome limitations in other
coastline data sets, which tended to be either too large
in scale, or had serious registration differences with
high resolution raster datasets such as SRTM or LandSat
data. Coastlines data will be used to produce administrative boundaries maps in the TerraViva! collection. Watch for news of this upcoming release or register for email. |
