THE STORY BEHIND OUR MAP FILE FORMAT
The thematic map data we offer is
presented in our "TerraViva! Map" (tvm) file
format, viewable using our free
data viewer. TerraViva! viewers
and the tvm
file format were created by ISciences to
support geospatial exploration by providing an easy-to-use
tool for rapid visualization, analysis,
and communication of geospatial information. We created
our map file format to better support global, tera-pixel
images (1
million million pixels) and to overcome a number
of shortcomings in existing formats.
HIGHLIGHTS - RAPID VISUALIZATION AND REPROJECTION
The most powerful advantage you'll experience using
our map file format is rapid visualization and rapid
reprojection of map data. TVM
employs the Geographic projection, but permits viewing
data in many other projections. Our future
plans are to make tvm
an open-source format usable through GDAL (Geospatial
Data Abstraction Library).
